Music With Mommy

Come with your young children to listen to, sing and move along with a variety of musical selections from nursery rhymes to classic rock 'n roll! We've assembled a half hour of musical fun where parents can share the experience of music with their little ones. The program is open to all children, but is geared mostly to those who have not yet begun school. There is a limit to the number of people who can attend, so make sure to register with us via email or phone in order to reserve your space.
Program Guidelines
  1. The program is scheduled to occur on a weekly basis but registration is required one time only; confirmation of your interest is not required every week.  Once your registration has been accepted, you are considered to be enrolled in every week of the program.

  2. If your schedule changes or something else occurs such that you can no longer attend, please let us know so that we can fill your spot with someone who may be on the waiting list.

  3. Since there has been such a strong expression of interest, it has become necessary to implement an attendance policy in order to ensure that everyone gets a fair chance to participate.  The policy is modeled after the one that the library uses for its storytime sessions with the understanding that keeping a schedule with babies and toddlers is not an exact science.  :-)  Under this policy, you are requested to provide notification to the Mommy and Me email address (see the newsletter for the address) each time you cannot attend the class.  After two unreported absences, your place in class may be relinquished to someone on the waiting list.  We thought this was a fair policy, and we hope that you do, too.

  4. Please bring with you any rhythm instruments you may have at home so that your children can play along with the music.  We do have some extras for those who may not have these things on hand, but consider that you probably do have many "instruments" and may not realize it.  Rattles make good shakers, as do small, well-sealed containers filled with something non-toxic like lentils.  The internet can be a good resource of ideas for other homemade instruments.

  5. Remember that other children in the class are watching you just as your child is watching everyone else, so it's important for you to participate as best you can even if your child may not be actively engaged in the current activity.  Not only will it help keep them focused, but it will also set an example that we all hope they will emulate in more formal educational settings.  Please don't think that you shouldn't socialize with other moms - we should enjoy this time together with each other, too!  But chatting during the program is extremely distracting and confusing to the kids.  If you arrive a little bit early, however, it is an ideal time to catch up with others.  And we're not being chased out of the room by anyone else after the program ends either.

  6. The meeting room at the library can only be reserved 8 weeks in advance at the earliest.  Other groups sometimes reserve the room, and there may be times when another group's needs take precedence over ours even though we may have reserved the room first.  Make sure to check your email and the Schedules tab of the main Mommy & Me page for up-to-date schedule information.

  7. As a disclaimer, this program has been created by a mom who is not a certified music instructor, so if you thought you were getting professional service, you have now been informed otherwise!  That being said, all ideas and suggestions are welcomed and greatly appreciated!
