Do you have an idea for a new Interest Group?  Would you like to host a new group?  Please let us know!  Some suggestions for new groups are below.

Adventure Club Adventure Club

For those of you who are new to NNCR or are unfamiliar with The Adventure Club, let me briefly explain what The Adventure Club is all about.  This group is geared to members who always wanted to try something new, but didn’t want to try it on their own.  At the initial meeting, a group of women brainstormed a variety of new “Adventures”.  We didn’t know how many fun outings were ahead of us.  A spa day, a cooking class, learning to ski, learning to watercolor and learning to knit were just a few of the “Adventures” enjoyed during the year.  Some of these activities were free of charge and some of them required the participants to pay a fee associated with that particular adventure.  It is not necessary to participate in every “Adventure”, just the ones that look interesting to you.  We will meet as a group intermittently throughout the year.

To get on the Adventure Club e-mail list, contact Carolyn Sefcik and she will send out e-mails to alert you to our latest adventure.  Also, let us know about adventures you would like to try; we're always open for suggestions!

Babysitting Co-Op

Need FREE BABYSITTING?  Join the babysitting Co-op!  It’s a great way to make new friends for you and your children, and get free babysitting in the process!
Participation in the co-op eliminates the need to feel guilty about asking friends to help watch your kids when you need to run an errand in the daytime, or need a night out without the kids.  And to help us all get to know one another before utilizing each other for babysitting, we are scheduling monthly evening meetings for the moms and daytime playgroups for the children.  It’s really a great program, and it’s even better when we have more members.  To register, or for more information, contact Lesley and Debbie

Book Club  Book Club

We hope that you all had a wonderful summer and we’re looking forward to seeing a lot of old and new faces this year.  Once again, we are very excited about the list of books selected for the year.  We were given great feedback in the spring and we’ve heard that a lot of you have already started reading.
Since some of you may be new to the club, we’d like just to review how our group is run.  In June the group decides together on the books for the upcoming year.   In order to include everyone interested, we pretty much alternate between evening and daytime meetings.  The meetings usually fall on the last week of the month. This can vary as the person hosting chooses the date.  Due to the holiday schedule our December selection is not discussed until the beginning of January.  Evening meetings start at 7:30 and daytime meetings start around Noon.  For daytime discussions we all bring something to share and have lunch together – children are always welcome during the day.  You can choose to read all of the books or just a few; there’s no commitment required.  If you are having difficulty finding a book, please contact us as we have one set which can be borrowed on a first come, first serve basis.

Community Service Community Service Helping Hands

Community Service offers you an opportunity to help a variety of local groups and get to know your fellow members at the same time.
The Halloween Parade
Tuesday, October 30th
Attention all ghosts and goblins!  Get your costume and join us for another great Halloween Parade at the Senior Community Center on Calais Rd.  Sign ups begin at 3:45 pm. and the parade starts at 4:00 pm.  Refreshments will be served.  Please contact Chrissy Sunberg to volunteer your assistance.

Helping Hands
Helping Hands is a group that provides either homemade or store bought meals to members in a time of need – a new baby, an illness, or the loss of a family member.  Any assistance is welcome!  We’ve really made a difference in the lives of our fellow members, and they truly appreciate a “helping hand”.

The Angel Connection
This is an organization that helps families affected by AIDS provide holiday gifts for the children in the family.   Sadly, this is the last year that the Angel Connection will be in operation, and to save what little money they have, they are no longer providing gift tags. They request that we purchase $25.00 gift cards from the following stores: Walmart, Target, Toys R Us, iTunes, or any music store.   They are also asking that the gift cards be delivered to their offices immediately after Thanksgiving.  So let’s show them how generous we can be.  Just contact Laura Gabrielsen, and she will be happy to stop by and pick up your donation.  Thanks in advance!

Senior Holiday Dinner - Sunday, December 2nd - 12PM to 3PM
Calling everyone willing to bake and/or serve for the Senior Holiday Dinner!   NNCR provides all of the desserts; we will be in need of baked goods (pies, cakes, and cookies).  Items can be dropped off at Randolph High School just prior to the event; special arrangements can be made ahead of time if you can’t get there that day.  In addition to setting up the dessert platters, we serve the meal and do some clean-up. . . comfortable shoes and an apron are recommended!  Between the band and the seniors, it is an entertaining way to spend a couple of hours giving back to our community!  For those who have already volunteered, thanks!  For those willing to help out, please contact Tammy McConnell.

Senior Picnic
We provide servers and desserts for this annual event in June.  Bakers prepare (or buy) their favorite dessert and help serve, or simply drop it off.  Servers offer and handle the buffet style meals and desserts.  More details will be available closer to the picnic.

Morris Habitat for Humanity
There are a great many opportunities for our club members to get involved with MHfH.  To see how you can contribute, visit the Habitat for Humanity Volunteers section of this page.

Dinner Club  Dinner Club

Travel the globe without leaving your town,
        Expand your culinary horizons...
Come have some fun, see old friends, meet new people, and enjoy a good meal and a fun night out! Dinner club is forming.  This year will offer creative themes (such as, Harvest Meal , Spain : Tapas Party, Rustic French Cooking, Winter Warm-Up Dinner, Italian Alfresco Dinner, Southern Accents and of course the favorite- Secret Ingredient Dinner) with suggested menus.  We will start out with the easier recipes and then progress to slightly more difficult recipes as the ‘dinner group’ desires.

Rules of Engagement:
  • People will be asked whether they want to bring a main course, side, appetizer, or dessert.
  • We will track who brings what – so that the same people are not constantly bringing main courses.
  • We will assign each couple a suggested recipe for which substitutions are allowed.
  • We would like an RSVP 14 days in advance, if possible – so that we can properly plan the event
  • Hosts – need only provide soft drinks, tea, coffee, and a fun place to be.
  •  BYOB- let’s not forget to bring a bottle of wine, beer or whatever else goes with the theme of the night
  • Suggestions for menus or any improvements are always welcome.
  • We will attempt to hold Dinner Club the third Saturday of each month
If you are interested in joining us, or receiving information about Dinner Club, please contact Doreen Cohen or Susie Schoenberger.

GolfGolf

Welcome to the 2007-2008 year of Golf with Newcomers and Neighbors!  Last year was a great year for golf in and around Randolph. We have a mix of players from first timers to some of us who have been playing a few years. There is always someone to pair up with.
This year we have played at Lake Lackawanna, a nice 9 hole course not too far away, and we have even done 18 holes at Rolling Greens in Sparta.  The weather is getting much nicer now so let me know if you would like to join us for a few holes.   We can also hit at the driving range or play a round at the pitch and putt.  Do come and join us.  We have a fun time, a nice walk, a chat (when no one is hitting), and play some golf as well.

We keep it friendly with a 3-raise limit and no check-raising.  A $40 buy-in gets most players to midnight - usually!  Come try your luck and see if your Poker Face is up to the challenge!!  Invitations are handled via Evite.com, so forward you email address to Andy or Phil for more information.

Playgroups   Playgroups

Playgroups are a great way for your child to interact with other children and an even better way for you to make new friends, share parenting tips, and have some stimulating adult conversation.  Here's how the process works... A parent contacts me to ask for placement in a group, and they are placed on a list for that age group.  When enough names have accumulated on a list, I will contact each person in that group and let them know.  One person will be asked to be in charge of pulling together the first meeting of the group.  At that initial meeting the group will collectively decide upon which day, time, frequency and such the group will meet each week.  Afterwards, you just let me know how it went, and your playgroup is formed!
The following playgroups are now being formed:
-a 2-year-old boys group
-a 1½-year-old girls group
-a 5-year-olds group

Please contact Laurie Trezza if you are interested in becoming part of a playgroup or if your existing playgroup is open to new members.  Happy Playing!!!!

Well, we're a group of women who've all been there (are still there)!  We get together once a month in the evening to just get something DONE.  Come and bring along all or some of your stuff and enjoy great conversation and some munchies while we all work on our own scrapbooks!

We do not have sales meetings for any scrap booking supplies EVER.
